On 1 October 2018, one suspect, 42, is expected to appear in the Koster Magistrates’ Court for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The suspect’s court appearance comes after his arrest by the police on Friday, 28 September 2018. According to the information received, the police were on patrol duties in the Derby area when they spotted a shop that was still operating.

Driven by suspicion, the police went there to investigate. Upon arrival at the shop, they conducted a search that led to the discovery of a 38 revolver and two rounds of ammunition of which ownership thereof could not be accounted for. The suspect was then arrested at the scene.

In another unrelated incident in Letlhabile, two suspects aged 29 and 31 are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court for pointing of firearm as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The duo’s appearance in court follows their arrest by the police in Letlhabile on Wednesday, 27 September 2018 at approximately 04:00.

The suspects were arrested after the police reacted on a tip off about a man in Letlhabile who allegedly pointed someone with a firearm. Upon arrival at one of the suspects’ place, they found an R5 magazine with one ammunition and three 9mm ammunition and a toy gun.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the magazine and ammunition were linked to Letlhabile burglary residential case where four R5 magazines and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) deployment kit were stolen. The police proceeded to another house in Centreville, Letkhabile where they found the other suspect who in possession of ammunition.
