Festive Season operation: 119 Suspects arrested, NW province

As part of ensuring that citizens and tourists in the province are safe and protected during the festive season, 119 suspects were nabbed for various offences through the Safer Festive Season operations conducted jointly with other law enforcement agencies between Friday 13 and Monday 16 December 2019.

The suspects were arrested in all seven policing clusters and they include three for rape and assaults with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The other suspects were held for crimes highly dependent on police action for detection. They include 13 that were nabbed after being found driving under the influence of alcohol.

During the operations, fines were issued to 84 individuals for drinking in public. Another five fines were issued for being drunk in public and illegal dealing in liquor. Moreover, 199 fines were issued including 132 to motorists for road traffic related offences.

In addition, the police seized a variety of items including liquor and knives.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the arrests and indicated that the police working together with other role players will continue through various actions, to ensure community safety during the festive season.
