A collaborative effort by farmers and police in Wolmaransstad resulted in the arrest of six male suspects on a farm on 20 June 2017.

The suspects’ arrest came after the police received a call about a suspicious Volkswagen Polo with male occupants inside, though five of them ran away.

On arrival, the police found the Volkswagen Polo and a 24-year-old suspect already being apprehended by farmers. Two of the suspects who ran away handed themselves to the police at the scene.
According to information, the police searched the car and found a police blue light, hand cuffs, forensic exhibit bags and two illegal firearms.

It is alleged that three other suspects were arrested on N12 road while hitch-hiking.

Further probe revealed that the 52-year-old suspect is a police official working in Gauteng Province. He was allegedly found in possession of police appointment certificate. During the arrest, the police managed to seize three firearms.

All six suspects are expected to appear in the Wolmaransstad Magistrates Court on 22 June 2017 on charges of conspiracy to commit house robbery and possesion of illegal firearm and ammunition.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane lauded the police and the farmers for their cooperation and a quick response that ensured the arrest of the suspects. She further said that criminality will not be tolerated and that those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law including our own members, will be dealt with effectively.
