Farmer shot and killed by five suspects in Vryburg

On Friday, June 30 Patrick Itumeng, (68) became the fourth farmer in the North West area to die during a farm attack, in the last three months.

Itumeng was killed only one day after Elsa Erasmus, 74, was murdered on her farm in the Schweizer-Reneke district and possibly also raped.

Five armed suspects gained access to the Itumeng farm situated outside Vryburg and threatened both Patrick and his wife. The suspects demanded money, and four shots were fired, hitting Itumeng in the head. His wife was also shot in her hand.

Itumeng died on the scene, and the suspects fled. At this stage, it is not clear what the suspects stole.

After the police and community security had been alerted, Mrs. Itumeng was transferred to hospital for medical treatment.

The police are investigating a charge of murder and attempted murder. The suspects are still at large.
