A farm attack took place on the night of 8 August 2022, at 22:00 at Topaz flowers farm along the R104 in Mooinooi, in the North West province of South Africa.
Joop (87) and Carla (85) van Reeuwyk were overpowered and very badly assaulted with a steel fence pole by an unknown number of attackers who gained entry to the home by breaking a window.
Farmers responded to the attack after receiving an emergency call on the radio. As the first responders arrived the attackers fled.
At this stage it is unclear what, if anything, was robbed during the attack.
The swift response of the farmers probably saved the lives of the couple.
The two victims were treated on the scene and rushed to Millpark Hospital for further care. They have both suffered serious brain injuries and are in a very serious condition.
Police are investigating but there have been no arrests.
