A North West man, Alwyn Smit is being treated in hospital after being stabbed by two suspects in a farm house near Vryburg during Wednesday night 31 January 2018.

Alta Swart, AfriForum Regional Co-ordinator, told Maroela Media that the incident occurred on a farm in the Tlakgameng area.

According to Swart, a relative of Alwyn Smit stays in the house on the farm, but no one was home at home on Wednesday. The alarm of the house went off, and Smit and his wife, who lived near the farm, were investigating.

When Smit entered the house, he was attacked by two suspects. According to Swart, Smit has been stabbed several times and he also suffered a lot of bite wounds. Smit was armed with his firearm and shots were fired in the process. One of the suspects is injured.

Swart added that farmers from the area responded and were on the scene very quickly and the two suspects were arrested.

Sgt. Kelebogile Moleko a Police spokesperson confirmed the incident to Maroela Media, saying two suspects, 18 and 19, respectively, were arrested. Moleko said the 18 year old suspect was wounded in his stomach and shoulder and is currently under police guard in the hospital.

Moleko added that the two suspects were released on bail earlier after being arrested on charges of murder and robbery. Additional charges of assault and housebreaking will now be brought against them.

Smit is currently in hospital and is in a satisfactory condition, according to Swart. His wife is unharmed.
