After a farm attack took place on 25 August 2020, at 18:00, at Rysmierbult, near Potchefstroom, in the North West Province of South Africa, a well organised operation took place on 27 August 2020, in the early hours of the morning. The Drug Task Team followed up information received and conducted an operation in Khutsong, Carletonville together with Capt. Montsiwa, the investigating officer, Trio Task Team members and Carletonville Detectives. Seven suspects was arrested for involvement in the case as well as possession of firearms.

A farm worker was attacked, assaulted and tied up, the dogs were barking and the owner, Andre Marais aged 54, made the fateful mistake of going outside to investigate. He walked straight into the attackers and was shot numerous times. The attackers only robbed the man of his firearm and fled.

The .22 pistol belonging to Marais was recovered together with another 9mm pistol, a Wembley revolver and a replica pistol resembling a Barretta 9mm pistol. The attackers were also identified by shoe prints left on scene.

One of the arrested attackers previously gave a statement that he was robbed and taken to a mall to withdraw money from ATM before the farm attack, this however proved to be a false statement and the VW vehicle that was used during the farm attack was found in his possession.
