The 38-year-old Mokhethi Sammual Moeketsi appeared before the Taung Magistrates’ Court for his first court appearance on Tuesday, 13 July 2021, for an alleged farm attack and his case was remanded on custody until Tuesday, 20 July 2021.

The accused’s court appearances emanated from his apprehension on Sunday, 11 July 2021 following an incident in which he allegedly pointed a 74-year-old farmer with a firearm at about 08:00 while at his Klein Vlakfontein farm, Reivilo.

During the incident, the farmer was allegedly assaulted with a chain in his face and robbed of cash. The farmer who was tied up, was rescued after the incident.

Subsequent to the incident, police and neighbouring farmers were speedily mobilised leading to apprehension of the suspect on neighbouring farms shortly after the crime was committed.

During the arrest, police confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol and all the stolen cash.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked the farmers for their cooperation that led to the successful apprehension of the suspects.
