A farm attack took place on Thursday night, 30 October 2020, at 19:45 in Welgegund smallholdings, near Broederstroom, in the North West Province province of South Africa. A couple, Jill (76) and John (76) Heinrich, were attacked outside their home, by an unknown number of attackers, at least one of which was armed. John and his dogs defended themselves against the attack and a shot was fired by one of the attackers. Jill managed to get to the kitchen and close the glass door before grabbing the panic button.
One armed attacker pursued her and pointed the firearm at her then smashed the door. The dogs and John put up a good fight and after the alarm was raised the attackers fled on foot. A swift response by a security company also assured that the couple were safe and whilst John suffered some injuries he was not badly hurt.
The police are investigating but there have been no arrests. There is no other information available at this stage.
