Three suspects broke windows by throwing bricks and other objects in an attempt to access the home of Piet Swannepoel (73) who lives in Ottoshoop.

Around 17H00 on March 4, the suspects entered the home of Swannepoel and demanded money, threatening the elderly man with a machete. Swannepoel tried to defend himself by using pepper-spray.

Before the suspects fled, they threw a glass bottle at him and he sustained cuts to his arm.

The suspects fled with money, valuable house hold items and on their way out, said they would be back to burn down his house.

The police were alerted but unfortunately took over three hours to respond to the incident. Lack of personnel was the reason given by the police for the delay in not responding swiftly to the emergency call.
