De Wildt land grabs: AfriForum requests its legal team to intervene

The civil rights organisation AfriForum requested its legal team to tackle yet another land grab case, this time in the De Wildt area in North West.

“Today is day 15 since this land grab began and the SAPS were conspicuous by their absence despite numerous attempts to bring them to action. Pres. Ramaphosa promises the world that land grabs don’t exist and that the police will act, yet the local Mmakau Police Station apparently doesn’t have that ability,” says Ian Cameron, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety.

AfriForum’s legal team on 16 January consulted the people that own the land and is already busy with the necessary processes to force the police to remove the landgrabbers.

“We are planning on being in court soon and in doing so calling the police to account in this case, their refusal to act is making a mockery of property rights in this country,” says Marnus Kamfer, AfriForum’s Legal and Risk Manager.
