DA hands Matlosana back to ANC on silver platter

The Matlosana Local Municipality, which serves Klerksdorp, Stilfontein, Hartbeesfontein and Orkney, will possibly have to endure the poor and self serving leadership of its former mayor, Maetu Kgaile, once again in the near future. Kgaile was ousted last month by means of a motion of no confidence.

A new mayor was supposed to have been elected today, 1 November 2018, during a special council meeting, but the meeting was postponed with seven days after the DA and the EFF left the council chamber.

At today’s meeting, the opposition members were in the majority with 27 members as opposed to the ANC’s 25.

Seeing as none of the other opposition parties nominated a candidate for the position of mayor, the FF Plus nominated a candidate in opposition to Kgaile, who was once again nominated by the ANC. The FF Plus’s main objective is to do everything in its power to prevent the election of yet another incompetent mayor, which will only be to the detriment of the community, and the party will not back down.

The opposition would have succeeded in defeating the ANC in today’s meeting by filling the most important position in the council if the DA had not backed down and left the council chamber. The meeting has now been postponed with seven days and that affords the ANC the opportunity to get their affairs in order to ensure that there is definitely an ANC majority in the next meeting.

It is lamentable that the opposition parties’ successful motion of no confidence against Kgaile may now possibly come to nothing because of some opposition parties’ silly decision to follow the DA’s example of leaving the council chamber and not voting for the opposition’s candidate.

The FF Plus will, however, continue to further the interests of the entire Matlosana community without bias and cheap politicking. The FF Plus will not hesitate to fight back against poor management and poor service delivery.
