DA councillor admits guilt: Corruption, fraud, intimidation in Rustenburg

A DA councillor, Agnes Tsamai, has admitted guilt on three accounts. The charges against her include, among other things, the intimidation of officials, corruption and fraud.

At the end of 2017, the FF Plus informed the council of allegations that certain DA and EFF councillors acted inappropriately and requested the council to investigate the complaints. The FF Plus also handed evidence in the party’s possession over to the Hawks and ensured that criminal charges were filed.

The Municipality’s Speaker, Ms Shiela Mabale Huma, heeded the FF Plus’s request and launched an investigation into the matter. The findings of the said investigation were presented to the council on 26 March 2019.

The damning evidence against the relevant councillors include, among other things, an admission of guilt by Tsamai, the DA councillor. Even though Tsamai was relieved of certain duties in the party itself, the DA is still allowing her to serve as councillor.

Corruption must be totally eradicated. It is a constant battle to expose the ruling party’s corruption and hypocrisy. It is, therefore, even more unacceptable that councillors of opposition parties are also guilty of the very same offences and that they are not properly reprimanded by their party. This is reminiscent of the ANC’s modus operandi.

The FF Plus will continue to expose corruption, as in this case, and fight back against the abuse of power as well as the misappropriation of tax payers’ money.
