A 37-year-old Constable Kgomotso Montsho was granted R500.00 bail on appearance in the Madikwe Magistrates’ Court on 29 July 2021, for corruption and defeating the ends of justice. He is expected to reappear in court on Monday, 6 September 2021.

Montsho was arrested on Tuesday, 27 July 2021, in Madikwe by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU) for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a member of the public.

According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that Montsho called the victim and demanded the bribe for withdrawal of the case unknown to the victim. With information at their disposal, the members pounced on the accused soon after receiving R5000.00 which was found in his possession.

The accused who is attached to Madikwe Detectives, will also be subjected to internal investigation in terms of the South African Police Service Discipline Regulations.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit members for their swift response that resulted in the arrest of the accused. He pointed out that corruption cannot be tolerated and that those who lack integrity and tarnish the organisational image through corrupt activities, will not be spared.
