In the first incident, a girl, aged 18, was walking in Tshing, Extension 4, close to Ventersdorp at about 19:45 on Saturday, 10 February 2018, when she realised that an unknown male was following her. The man suddenly grabbed and dragged her to a nearby four-way intersection where he threatened her with a knife before raping her.

Following excellent investigation work by Constable Nathaniel Lephoi of the Potchefstroom FCS Unit, Tshepo Andries Ratlotling (23) was traced, arrested and later sentenced by the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court as follows:

Kidnapping: 5 years imprisonment
Ratlotling was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearm Control Act, Act 60 of 2000.

In a second and unrelated incident, police were called to the Community Health Centre in Delareyville on Tuesday morning, 12 October 2021, where the body of a 43-year-old male, Amos Mokgafi Maine, who was stabbed multiple times, was found. He was declared dead on the scene.

Sterling investigation conducted by Sergeant Ofentse Molusi of Delareyville Detectives, led to the apprehension of the deceased ‘son, Olebogang Tshepang Chubi (20) shortly after the incident. Evidence presented in court indicated that Maine was murdered by Chubi for his social grant money.

Chubi was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment by the Delareyville Magistrates’ Court. Furthermore, he was declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearm Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).
