After the West Transvaal town of Coligny had suffered millions of rands worth of damage through the barbaric protesters who broke, burned and looted the town, it appears that the 12-year-old who died was actually 16 years old.

After searching for more than a week for someone who could identify the child, his father finally came up and revealed that he was 16-year-old Matlhomola Mosweu.

Mosweu was arrested by farmers after being caught in the fields while with a friend where they stole sunflowers. The friend ran away, but Mosweu was ordered to get on a bakkie to be taken to the police station.

On the way to the station, he jumped off a moving bakkie and took his own life. However, the two drivers of the bakkie have been arrested and are still in detention in connection with the incident.

The fact of struggling for more than a week to identify Mosweu causes suspicion that as a teenager he ran away from his home. That’s why his parents did not immediately realize that he was dead.
