A 45 year old, single mother, Laurika Potgieter, was attacked and stabbed to death on the farm Uitval near Silkaatsnek, T-junction, Hartbeespoort on Wednesday August 10.
Apparently, when a worker arrived home, he phoned the family and said the door was standing wide open and that he saw a lot of blood. A friend arrived, it was apparent that the front door was broken. He found Potgieter’s body in the passage; it was ice-cold. From the description given, Potgieter was bludgeoned to death with pick-axes.
Only the laptop, television set, and cellphone was missing. None of the other valuable goods including the motor vehicles was taken.
Potgieter, leaves behind three daughters, her husband died two years ago of a heart attack.
Apparently, there are two conflicting descriptions of the manner in which Potgieter was murdered. The police said she was stabbed to death with a sharp object. Potgieter’s sister-in-law said she was hacked to death with pick-axes.
The police have confirmed the murder and are investigating and following up on important leads.
