Money gets squandered on changing hospital names, while boxes are used as baby beds in Mahikeng in the North West.

It is shocking that boxes had to be used as cots for babies in the Bophelong Provincial Hospital in Mahikeng this week due to a shortage of suitable beds in the Hospital’s neonatal unit.

This is while North West’s ANC MEC for Health, Mr Madoda Sambatha, proudly announced on Tuesday that money has been earmarked to change the names of five hospitals in the province.

This incident once again proves that the ANC government has totally lost touch with reality, and has absolutely no compassion for the suffering of ordinary South Africans.

Instead of addressing the serious shortages of equipment and staff in North West’s provincial hospitals, scarce financial resources are spent on ideologically driven trivialities, like name changes. It is a disgrace.

The FF Plus demands that the Portfolio Committee on Health in the Legislature must urgently conduct an oversight visit to the Hospital.

The party also insists that the money set aside for the name changes must be re-prioritised to remedy the shortages in essential equipment.

The people of North West deserve better than the ANC.
