Aunt kills nephew at tombstone unveiling ceremony

On Wednesday, 27 December 2017, a suspect is expected to appear in the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder.

A 65 year old woman is expected to appear in the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court following her arrest for allegedly killing her 44 year old nephew at Kiditwe village near Ganyesa.

According to information at our disposal, the suspect and the victim had a quarrel during tombstone unveiling ceremony on Monday, 25 December 2017. The suspect allegedly took out a knife and stabbed the victim on the neck. The victim was certified dead at the scene. The suspect who is the victim’s aunt, was arrested after the incident was reported to the police.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident and repeated the importance of resolving differences amicably. She said that incidents such as these including the one that occurred in Lichtenburg could have been avoided if all parties were prepared to resolve their differences peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
