Alleged North West cop killers case postponed
Three men accused of killing a North West policeman appeared briefly in the Brits Magistrate’s Court

Three men accused of killing a North West policeman appeared briefly in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The case against Thulani Mtshali, Mduduzi Gumede and Bhekizitha Madondo was postponed to July 17 for further investigations.

The three are facing charges of armed robbery and murder. They allegedly gunned down Constable John Mokotedi, 36, at a shopping mall in Bapong near Brits on November 4 last year.

Mokotedi and his colleagues were on routine patrols in the area when they encountered group of armed men.

The officers did not know that the gang had just robbed a clothing shop in the mall. The gang, however, suspected the officers were there to arrest them. They opened fire, hitting Mokotedi in the head. He died on the scene.

The other officers were not injured.

The three men were arrested by a multi-disciplinary task team established to investigate police killings in the North West province.
