AG report: Deep rooted mismanagement, corruption and misappropriation - North West

The latest report by the Auditor-General (AG) on the state of affairs regarding financial management and accountability in provincial departments in the North West reaffirms the deep-rooted culture of mismanagement, corruption and misappropriation in the province.

Under the ANC government, irregular expenditure in the North West for the last financial year amounts to a staggering total of R27,2 billion.

Legal prescripts for procurement processes are ignored by 95% of the departments and entities and numerous cases of alleged corruption, amounting to R477 million, are currently under investigation.

The irregular expenditure of the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), which is responsible for, among other things, oversight and intervening at struggling municipalities in the province to remedy the situation, amounts to R548 million.

The AG’s report clearly expresses the extensive scope of the ANC’s failure to govern. The misappropriation of billions of rand and the consequent decline of services and infrastructure are an absolute shame.

The FF Plus will continue to play a leading role in strengthening the opposition and mobilising voters to ensure that this mismanagement and looting of tax money in the North West comes to an end.

In the upcoming local government elections, voters have the opportunity to cast a decisive vote and put an end to ANC control over municipalities.
