A tactical operation conducted between Thursday, 16 March and Friday, 17 March 2023, in the Bojanala District by a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Crime Intelligence, Rustenburg Trio Task Team and Marikana SAPS resulted in the arrest of four suspects for various house robberies.
The arrest emanated from several incidents of house robberies committed in Rustenburg and Marikana areas.
On Thursday, 23 February 2023 a house robbery was reported at Club 20 Modderfontein, Rustenburg, whereby four suspects, armed with firearms allegedly robbed the victim and also took his firearm.
Another house robbery, farm attack, was committed on Friday, 3 March 2023, at a smallholding in Rustenburg where four armed males allegedly robbed the victim off her vehicle and electric appliances.
In addition, a house robbery was reported in Koster on Friday, 3 March 2023, where four males armed with firearms robbed guests of cellular phones, liquor and two vehicles.
Following the investigations and subsequent operation, the first suspect, Osvaldo Dos Santos (28) was arrested in Marikana and items to the value of R9 000-00 were recovered from him.
The tactical team then proceeded to another address and found the second suspect. Poppy Mnisi (28) was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and ammunition. Items to the value of R30 000-00 were recovered.
A third address was visited and Isaac Saobone Nyabonga (32) was arrested after the tactical team found him in possession of five solar panels, axes, a deep cycle battery, invertor and bush cutters worth R70 000-00.
The team further followed up on vehicles taken during the house robberies and the fourth suspect, Zawa Mahundzi (54) was arrested in Marikana on Friday, 17 March 2023 after being spotted and intercepted at Caltex Garage Buffelspoort.
He was found in possession of white Chevrolet that was taken during the house robbery in Koster.
All four suspects appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 22 March 2023, on charges of house robbery, possession of stolen property and possession of stolen vehicle. They were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Wednesday, 29 March 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated all the units involved for working tirelessly to bring the alleged perpetrators to book in order to face the full might of the law.
