Operation Shanela is proving to be successful with high density operations in full swing throughout the North West Province.

This after police in the province arrested 267 suspects between Thursday, 8 and Sunday morning, 11 June 2023.

The suspects were nabbed for crimes such as robbery aggravating, murder, rape, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession and dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, assault common, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and many others.

In one of the operations in Mmakau on Friday evening, 9 June 2023, three suspects; two females and a male, aged between 23 and 75, were arrested in a plot in the area of Zilkatsnek for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The accused were arrested during a multidisciplinary and crime intelligence driven operation following the execution of a search warrant.

During the search at the accused’s place, the team discovered two firearms; a pistol and .22 revolver with different types of ammunition.

The accused are expected to appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 June 2023.

The operations also resulted in the confiscation of the following items:

221 Ammunition.
Variety of drugs.
Two firearms.
One truck and trailer.
Liquor.
Counterfeit goods.

Furthermore, 714 persons and 274 vehicles were searched while four unlicensed liquor premises were closed down.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena expressed his gratitude to all the members including those of other law enforcement agencies and government departments for their participation in the high density operations to reduce the levels of crime.
