Johane Marumo (42), Douglas Mathamba (51), Keagile Rakanang (37) and Emmanuel Obini (34) appeared before the Sannieshof Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 October 2022, on charges of illegal possession of two rhino horns and illegal possession of a rifle silencer.

They will remain in custody until their next court appearance on Monday, 31 October 2022.

The accused were arrested in connection with an incident reported on Tuesday night, 18 October 2022. Police in Sannieshof received information that they followed-up, leading them to a white Volkswagen Polo with four occupants on the N14 road, Sannieshof.

The vehicle was stopped and searched. During the search, two rhino horns and a rifle silencer were found in the vehicle. All four suspects were immediately arrested after failing to account for the possessions.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the Sannieshof Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES), Visible Policing, Detectives, Community Patrollers, Vryburg Flying Squad, Vryburg K9 and Criminal Record & Crime Scene Management (CR&CSM) members for their teamwork and diligence that led to the arrest.

He said that the police will continue to work hard to ensure that criminals are put behind bars.
