Provincial suspect raiding operation conducted between Thursday, 29 and Friday, 30 August 2019, in the North West, mainly by women and targeting perpetrators of violence against women and children, resulted in the arrest of 287 suspects for various offences.

The arrests include 47 suspects detained for crimes against women and children such as assault, rape, attempted rape and contravention of protection order. All other suspects were nabbed for crimes ranging from burglary, murder, house robbery, aggravating robbery, intimidation, tampering with essential infrastructure to escape from lawful custody.

The suspects are expected to appear before different courts within the province on Monday, 2 September 2019.

In a similar operation conducted two weeks ago, a total of 263 suspects were arrested in the province.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Ryno Naidoo commended all members who took part in the operation especially women. He said that violence against women and children must be condemned and that the arrests will definitely send out a stern warning that perpetrators will be dealt with harshly.
