242 Suspects arrested, 38 for crimes against women and children, NW

In a bid to turn the tide against crime, a provincial suspect raiding operation conducted between Wednesday 8 January and Thursday 9 January 2020, as part of the Safer Festive Season Operations, resulted in the arrest of 242 suspects for various offences.

The suspects were arrested at all seven policing clusters for offences such as murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, robbery, sexual assault, assault common, rape, attempted rape and many other crimes. Out of 242 arrests, 38 were for crimes against women and children.

Meanwhile, Advice Moshotetsi (31) was remanded in custody until Thursday 16 January 2020, following his appearance in the Mmabatho Magistrates’ Court, for house robbery. Moshotetsi who was on the wanted list, was successfully traced and arrested during a crime intelligence led operation on Tuesday 7 January 2020, in Seweding village outside Mahikeng.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena welcomed the arrests and indicated that the police will continue with efforts to ensure community safety through various crime combating operations.
