In a bid to reduce the levels of serious crimes including contact crimes in the province, 225 suspects were arrested between Thursday, 11 and Friday, 12 April 2018 through Provincial suspect raiding operation held at all seven policing clusters.

Out of these arrests, 73 were for assault GBH, 22 for assault common and 18 for common robbery, 29 for burglary residential and business and 19 for rape. The other suspects were arrested for theft, armed robbery, malicious damage to property, carjacking, contravention of protection order, theft, theft of motor vehicle and many other offences. The suspects include 62 that were arrested for crimes against women and children.

Of the arrested suspects, 38 were nabbed in Rustenburg, 39 in Brits, 81 in Klerksdorp, 27 in Mahikeng, 16 in Vryburg, 14 in Pudimoe and 10 in Zeerust.

Most of the suspects have already appeared in various courts in the province on Friday, 13 April 2018 while others are expected today, 16 April 2018.

Meanwhile, a total of 87 suspects were arrested for various offences during operation Fiela II that was held between Friday, 13 and Monday, 16 April 2018 in the province to reassert the authority of the state.

In one of the arrests, a 38 year old man was nabbed for possession of dagga at approximately 13:00 on Friday, 13 April 2018 at a hitch-hiking spot along N12 in Klerksdorp. According to information received, Tactical Response Team (TRT) members were on duty when they searched the man who was hitchhiking to Kimberley. During the search, they found seven packets of dagga weighing 5,4 kg with estimated street value of R8 500,00 inside the suspect’s bag.

The man was then arrested for possession of dagga. He is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court today or possession of drugs.
