Modisaotlile Koki (47), Thembile Rens (46), Samuel Sarel (50) were each sentenced to an effective 18 years direct imprisonment by the Schweizer-Reneke Regional Court on Friday, 12 June 2020 for attempted murder, attempted robbery and illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The trio allegedly tried to rob a farm in Schweizer-Reneke in 2010. The farm owner spotted the accused and a shootout ensued. The accused then fled the scene without any of the stolen items.
A manhunt was launched wherein the accused were traced and arrested a month later.
They made a series of court appearances at the Schweizer-Reneke Regional Court which led to their conviction last Friday.
