20 Year sentence for aggravated house robbery, Delareyville

Atamelang Regional Court sentenced Kagiso Nakedi (22) on Wednesday, 12 January 2022, for burglaries, robberies, theft and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Nakedi was arrested on Monday, 4 May 2020 and successfully linked to four (4) crimes ranging from housebreaking, theft, robbery with aggravating circumstances to assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The crimes were committed between December 2018 and April 2020 in Delareyville.

In one of the cases in the early hours of Friday morning, 2 December 2018, the complainant and her boyfriend heard some movements in their house. She spotted an unknown man in the house and screamed. The complainant noticed after the suspect ran away that her two cell phones were missing.

In another incident on Tuesday, 31 December 2019, the complainant was sleeping when Nakedi used an iron rod to break the door and forcefully gained entrance into the house. He ordered the victim to undress, but she refused and a fight ensued. He took out a knife, stabbed the victim in the back and ran away.

Furthermore, on Sunday, 19 April 2020, the victim woke up in the early hours of the morning and saw a man standing next to her. The man stabbed her several times in the back, then took her cell phone and ran away.

The accused was sentenced as follows:

Count 1: Housebreaking: Three years imprisonment
Count 2: Housebreaking: Three years imprisonment
Count 3: Attempted robbery: Five years imprisonment
Count 5: Housebreaking and assault: Five years imprisonment
Count 8: Robbery with aggravating circumstances: 15 years imprisonment

The sentence in count 2 to run concurrently with the sentence in count 3 and the sentence in counts 1 to 5 to run concurrently with the sentence in count 8.

The accused has also been declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of section 103(1) of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000)

Lieutenant General Kwena congratulated the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Ofentse Molusi of the Delareyville Detectives for the sterling job he did in ensuring that the accused is convicted to do the time in jail.
