The police in Ipelegeng nabbed a 42 year old man for two counts of murder on Saturday, 06 January 2018. The suspect’s apprehension came after he allegedly shot two men, aged 23 and 30.
According to information available at this stage, the victims who are believed to be members of a gang known as SVK had just attended a funeral of a member of their gang when they went to Extension six Informal settlement at approximately 10:20.
The 2 gang members went to the suspect’s shack where apparently a fight ensued. The suspect allegedly took out a firearm and shot at the pair who died on the scene.
Subsequent to the shooting incident, the angry members of the community chased the suspect who ran to the Police Station. He was arrested and charged with two counts of murder.
He is expected to appear before the Schweizer Reneke Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 January 2018.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident. She encouraged the members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to proactively work together with relevant departments including the police to rid communities of gang related issues made.
