The implementation of Integrated National Plan to assert the Authority of the State displayed its significance on Friday, 4 May 2018, when 11 burglary and malicious damage to property accused aged between 20 and 39 were remanded in custody until Friday, 11 May 2018 for formal bail application after their brief appearance before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court.

As part of asserting the authority of the state and clamping on criminality, the police have been recovering goods and arresting suspects in Mahikeng, Jouberton, Sannieshof, Pudimoe, and Christiana where goods were looted from businesses during the recent protests.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended both teams for their dedication in ensuring that criminals who hijacked protests to commit crime are brought to book to face the full might of the law. She also tanked members of the community for coming forward with information that led to the arrests. “The Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (PROVJOINTS) will leave no stone unturned in dealing harshly with those who caused mayhem by looting and damaged essential infrastructure,” said the Provincial Commissioner.

The police and other law enforcement officials will be deployed continuously to ensure that the situation is stabilised and normalised at all places that were affected by the recent violent protests.
