Legal and medical experts agree that the new proposed legislation on health care can lead to an exodus of medical doctors.
Price control, as proposed in the law, will penalize medical doctors who currently charge tariffs outside of the prescribed price list.
Such emigration can then cause the domino effect as other professional groups, who are keen on good health care for their children, can also emigrate.
The SA Private Practitioner Forum, with 3,000 members, has already indicated that they are refusing to submit themselves to the new legislation, according to Dr. Chris Archer.
