Members of the White River K9 Unit arrested two suspects aged 34 and 41 and seized a massive amount of uncut heroin on the N4 road, near the Nkomazi Toll Plaza around 10:30 on 28 March 2018.

The arrest and seizure follows after police stopped a suspicious bakkie for a routine search. During the search, a false compartment in the bakkie’s loading area was detected and upon opening it, police made a discovery of heroin worth approximately R45 Million street value, hence the arrest.

The suspects are set to appear at the Low’s Creek Periodical Court on 29 March 2018 facing charges of possession of and dealing in illegal drugs.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma applauded the members of the South African Police Service for their hard work and astuteness. “The confiscation of illicit goods of this magnitude is a clear indication of criminals’ intention to undermine the authority of the state, equally, members of the SAPS have resolved to nip any kind of crime in the bud”, said the Provincial Commissioner.
