Two suspects, Jerry Mkhwebane aged 47 and Abram Butane Motloung aged 42 were remanded in custody by the Vaalbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday 25 February 2019, at Siyabuswa for business robbery charges.

The remand came after their arrest on Saturday, 23 February 2019 whereby police received information on their whereabouts. Police responded to the information and found seven suspects all in all, however, five managed to escape and only two were arrested at their hideout in the area.

Four pistols and 25 rounds of ammunition as well as a police hand radio were found in their possession.

These suspects were amongst a gang of 15 men who stormed the Vaalbank Traffic Department near KwaMhlanga, on 21 February 2019, stealing 14 firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash from a safe they blew up, after having tied up the security guards who were on duty.

They were remanded in custody and the case postponed to 05 March 2019 for a formal bail application.
