Police are investigating two cases after the discovery of bodies of two women, one in the Sand River at Kamajika outside Hazyview on Wednesday, 13 December 2023 while another one was found at Masoyi outside White River on Monday morning, 11 December 2023. The cases being probed are an inquest case as well as a murder.

According to information, the lifeless body of Ms Mampi Nelisiwe Shiba (37), as identified by her family was found at Chochocho in Masoyi not far from her residential place. The Police as well as the paramedics were summoned to the scene after the discovery and the woman was unfortunately certified dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that there was a foul play hence a murder case was opened though at first an inquest case was opened but later changed after further information surfaced that suggested that she was murdered. The Police at Masoyi are investigating the case and no one has been arrested so far. Meanwhile the naked body of another woman, identified by her family as Ms Patience Mokoena (37) was retrieved from Sand River in Kamajika Village outside Hazyview on the said Wednesday, 13 December 2023 and an inquest is being probed.

Preliminary investigations suggested no foul play however the police are continuing with the investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has indicated that Police will thoroughly investigate the cases without fear or favour to ensure that there is justice for the victims.
