Two suspects, Sipho Alfred Msumba aged 37 and Nolufefe Mbulana 33 were remanded in custody by the Ogies Magistrate’s Court today, after their appearance in court on a charge of kidnapping.

The suspects’ appearance came after they were traced and found at their hideout in Etwatwa near Benoni after they allegedly kidnapped a 20 year old young woman at her home in Ogies.

Information at police disposal revealed that on 19 December 2017, Msumba went to fetch his 39 year old lady friend at her house in Ogies and left for Etwatwa. It is reported that Msumba allegedly assaulted her on several occasions and took her phone from her so she could not contact her family.

The victim managed to escape by telling the people who guarded her that she was going to a nearby spaza shop, while the suspect was not around.

Msumba together with his co accused, Mbulana and their other accomplice, who is still at large, then found the victims mother as well as her 20 year old sister at home. They tied her mother, assaulted her with a firearm demanding that she give them her daughter, the escaped victim.

They then abducted the 20-year-old young woman and threatened them that if she cannot bring the person they are looking for, they will kill her.

A manhunt for the kidnappers, comprising of Ogies Detectives, Tactical Response Team as well as Witbank Cluster Tracing Team was launched, hence the arrest.

The suspects are expected to appear again on Monday, 05 February 2018, for a formal bail application at the same court.
