Two traffic officers to appear in court for corruption

South African Police Service

Two traffic Officers stationed at the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality will appear at the Middleburg Magistrate’s Court on 2 January 2019, facing corruption charges.

Their appearance spirals from an incident that led to their arrest wherein they stopped a taxi and instead of giving the driver a traffic fine after finding a fault, they allegedly demanded cash to the amount of R200 which was then allegedly paid in cash to the two officers.

The taxi driver then reported the matter to the police and on approaching the two suspects at the same spot where the incident had taken place, the suspects allegedly handed back the R200 back to the complainant allegedly in front of the police and were arrested on the spot.
