Two members of ( DLTC) Driver’s License Testing Center aged (45 and 47) were arrested by the Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Corruption Investigation unit on Monday, 15 January 2024 during an entrapment operation conducted at Mkhuhlu DLTC for Corruption.

The arrest followed after information was received by the Hawks about officials who are soliciting gratification.

It is alleged that on 08 January 2024, the complainant went to Mkhuhlu DLTC to write a learner’s driver’s license. After writing she found that she had failed. Then, the female examiner who was invigilating when they wrote approached her and told her that she could be assisted in passing a learner’s driver’s license only if she could pay her a gratification of R1000.

An agreement was made for her to book again, and she was given a date for 2024 January 15.

The matter was reported to the Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Corruption Investigation unit and Section 252A authority was granted.

The complainant was used as an agent and positively transacted with the target.

After the transaction it was found that there were other learners who also paid the gratification to pass the learners licence test.

Entrapment money of R1000.00 was recovered, and an extra R9 600.00 was confiscated from the two suspects.

Other applicants who were also writing the test on Monday, 15 January 2024, also submitted their statements since they paid gratification as well

The Suspects were immediately arrested and detained, pending their first court appearance at Mkhuhlu Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 16 January 2024.

Members of the public who paid gratification to the suspects are urged to come forward and submit their statement.
