The SAPS in Mpumalanga is investigating an incident regarding a serious incident involving alleged abduction and assault of two males, whose names are known to the police, with high possibility that they could have been killed. The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident centres around a certain farm in the Somaphepha area near Laersdrift, situated just outside Middleburg.
Police have learned that the whole drama started last week Friday, 23 August 2024, and thus far two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident on Wednesday, 28 August 2024.
This heinous incident at a farm stems from accusations that the victims were allegedly involved in livestock theft.
Subsequent to the arrest, the two suspects appeared at the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on 29 Thursday, 29 August 2024. Their case was postponed to 05 September 2024. The two suspects remain in custody whilst the investigations continue.
At this moment, the whereabouts or possible remains of the two victims is subject of Police investigation.

Meanwhile the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Mkwanazi has strongly condemned the incident. The General further emphasized that such acts of vigilantism and violence have no place in our society and undermine the rule of law. “We commend the dedicated men and women in blue for their swift and decisive action, which led to the prompt arrest of the two suspects involved. Their commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of our communities is commendable and plays a vital role in restoring public confidence in the police service, ” remarks the General.
