Two suspects, aged 21 and 27, are set to appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 07 August 2025, following their arrest for possession of suspected stolen property.

The arrests occurred in the early hours of this morning, 06 August 2025, after members of the Nelspruit Flying Squad intercepted the suspects during routine patrols and vehicle checkpoints along the R38 Road.

According to police reports, officers noticed a silver Ford Bantam with a white canopy and black-tinted windows approaching from the R38. When signaled to stop using torches, the driver allegedly ignored the instruction and accelerated away, prompting a high-speed chase.

The pursuing officers managed to bring the vehicle to a halt, where they discovered three occupants: the driver and two males seated in the back, wearing balaclavas and long black jackets. As the vehicle stopped, the suspects attempted to flee on foot, but alert officers successfully apprehended two of them.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered five large rolls of electric cables, a bolt cutter, and a hacksaw. Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property, while the vehicle was seized for further investigation.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing as they work to determine the origin of the recovered items and locate the third suspect who escaped.
