Two suspects, Frans Malanguthi (35) and Gilbert Hele (47), appeared at the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on 10 August 2017, after they were found in possession of suspected stolen communication tower batteries.

The pair was arrested on Tuesday, 08 August 2017 at approximately 01:00, by the police in Delmas who were busy with patrols when they spotted a red suspicious Volkswagen Polo with three occupants towing a trailer.

They then pulled it off the road for a search and just before it came to a complete halt, one of the occupants jumped out and fled the scene but police managed to corner the other two.

During the search, police discovered that the trailer was loaded with 14 communication tower batteries to the value of R42 000-00, belonging to a cellphone company which had been stolen at Kriel.

The suspects were remanded in custody until 16 August 2017, pending a formal bail application. They are also expected to appear at the Kriel Magistrate’s Court facing a theft case on a date still to be determined.
