Standerton police arrested two suspects, aged 32 and 26, on charges of dealing in dagga following a motor vehicle accident on the R39 near Standerton on Wednesday, 03 June 2026.

Members of the Standerton Visible Policing unit responded to the collision at the Grootdraai Dam T-Junction, which involved a silver Toyota Yaris and a white VW Polo.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the Toyota Yaris stationary on the roadway with extensive damage to the driver’s side. The driver of the Yaris was unresponsive and was transported to a local medical facility by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for treatment.

Police then approached the white VW Polo, which had come to a standstill in a nearby field. The driver, who was uninjured, informed officers that he had been traveling with a passenger. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police discovered several black plastic bags containing dagga.

Officers seized a total of 97 kilograms of dagga, with an estimated street value of approximately R582,000. The white VW Polo, which was displaying Northern Cape registration plates, was confiscated in connection with the investigation. Neither the driver nor the passenger of the Polo sustained injuries in the crash.

Both the driver and the passenger were arrested at the scene. The two suspects have been charged with dealing in drugs, while the driver of the VW Polo faces an additional charge of reckless and negligent driving.

The suspects are expected to appear at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court soon.
