Members of the South African Police Service at Hartebeeskop, near Carolina are looking for a man who allegedly shot and killed a 55 year old man, who was a traditional healer.

Information at police disposal revealed that on 12 February 2019, early in the evening, the traditional healer was at home together with his family when they heard the dog barking outside. He asked a family member to go and check. When that member arrived at the gate, there was a man believed to be in his 30s who reportedly needed to see the healer for a consultation session, where after he was directed to the consultation room while he (family member) went and called the healer.

After some time, they heard gunshots being fired and went to check at the consultation room, where they were met by the healer’s body lying in a pool of blood, with the suspect nowhere to be found.

The suspect is still at large and police are gunshots a murder case.

In another incident that took place at Breyten, near Carolina, a 49 year old man, Enoch Sipho Mathunjwa was remanded in custody when he briefly appeared at the Breyten Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 15 February 2019, for a murder charge.

It is alleged that on 14 February 2019 early in the morning, the suspect went to his house where he found his wife, who is a practising traditional healer, with another man.

An argument ensued between the two when suddenly the suspect reportedly took out a knife and stabbed the other man on the upper body several times before fleeing the scene.

Police and other role players were called and the victim was declared dead by paramedics. Later on the same day, the suspect handed himself over to the police, hence his appearance.

Mathunjwa is expected to appear on 15 March 2019, for a formal bail application.
