Taxi passengers arrested with 3 unlicensed firearms, Pienaar

Two suspects both aged 27 were arrested for possession of three unlicensed firearms with serial numbers filled off and 40 live rounds of ammunition in a taxi at Msogwaba, Pienaar outside Nelspruit on Saturday, 11 February 2023 at about 14:00.

A whistle-blower contacted police where after Pienaar Station Detectives operationalised the received information.

A taxi fitting the description according to received information was spotted at Msogwaba next to Shell filling station. Upon stopping the taxi, all passengers were searched and three firearms recovered from two suspects.

The recovered firearms will be taken to ballistic for testing and establishment of the lawful owners, and further investigation if the firearms were not involved in other criminal activities.

The suspects are expected to appear before Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court on Monday 13 February 2023.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended the whistleblower and encourage other community members to lend a helping hand in the fight against crime.
