The community Imbizo hosted by Wakkerstroom SAPS on Thursday 23 November 2023 had a successful impact on the local communities.

Community members were encouraged to report any criminal activities to the authorities. Community members heeded to the call by SAPS to report crime. A suspicious looking person who was walking from Sizameleni Township to Wakkerstroom, which is about 2km was reported to the police on 24 November 2023 at about 10:00.

The 36-year-old suspect was found with a bag containing a firearm and eight live rounds of ammunition.

The firearm’s serial numbers were filled off. The suspect could not produce a valid firearm licence for possession of the firearm.

The suspect was arrested, charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions. He is expected to appear before Volkrust Magistrate’s Court today, Monday 27 November 2023.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended the excellent work by the whistle-blower. “When community members play their role in the fight against crime, definitely the province will experience one of the most peaceful festive seasons ever,” added the General.
