The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has applauded members at Badplaas who, on 19 April 2022 arrested a 40-year-old suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to the report, police received information about a person who was apparently in possession of an illegal firearm. They then responded swiftly and approached the said person at his workplace and he revealed where he had hidden the firearm.

The suspect then led the police to his place of residence and they found the firearm and ammunition hidden in the wardrobe with its serial number filed off. He was then apprehended.

The suspect will appear at the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on 20 April 2022 on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner has applauded the members for attending to this matter speedily as well as ensuring that the suspect is arrested. “I would like to applaud the members for their alertness, which ensured the seizure of a dangerous weapon. Also it is such individuals who can possibly put the lives of innocent people at risk as well as perpetuate violent crime hence we will work around the clock to ensure that they are all put behind bars”, said the General.
