A suspect believed to be involved in the murder of the late Sergeant Thembisile Ndlovu (40) and her husband has finally been arrested.

The 26 year old suspect was arrested today in Johannesburg, Lenasia, following a three month search. The latest arrest brings the number of suspects linked to the double murder to three. The suspect will appear before the Mhala Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 14 March 2019, on charges of murder, robbery and theft of motor vehicle.

Sergeant Thembisile Ndlovu and her husband Jabulani Khoza (44) were allegedly ambushed inside their house on 1 December last year in Bushbuckridge. The couple were awaken by a disruption inside the house and upon inspection they were fired upon by three suspects. The late Detective Sergeant Ndlovu from Calcutta SAPS retaliated and fatally wounded one suspect.

However, the other two armed suspects continued firing and sadly both Ndlovu and Khoza succumbed to injuries from the shooting. The suspects fled the scene with the family’s vehicle which was later found abandoned within the Bushbuckridge area.

Members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit immediately took over the investigation and explored numerous linkages which led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the firearm on 5 January 2019. Freeman Thulani Maisana (31) is still in custody and will appear on 2 May 2019.

The Provincial Head of Mpumalanga Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Zodwa Mokoena has commended the team that assisted in the apprehension of the suspect.

“My sincere appreciation to Crime Intelligence, Metro Police Gauteng, TRT and Springs POPS for supporting our members. My heartfelt appreciation to the public as well for constantly providing information on the whereabouts of the suspect.”
