On 07 July 2017, at about 09:45 a cellular phone shop situated in a shopping mall at Secunda was robbed by four men pretending to be customers.

It is reported that the four came into the shop and one of them proceeded to the manager and told her that he wanted to buy a cellular phone. He then held her hand and showed her a firearm ordering her to keep quiet because this was a robbery.

The manager and other staff members were then taken to the back of the shop. The suspects took a total of 192 cellular phones to the estimated value of one million rand. They then locked the staff at the back and ran away.

Fortunately the security guards of the mall noticed them – using a BMW and a White Volkswagen Golf 7 to flee the scene. The guards gave a chase and the police joined in. The BMW, with two occupants had a puncture that led to one suspect being arrested and the other managing to evade arrest. The Golf managed to get away as well.

The arrested suspect will appear on Monday, 10 July 2017, at the Secunda Magistrates’ Court for business robbery.

Police are looking for the other three suspects and anyone who can assist the police in their investigation is urged to contact Detective Capt Simon Mlotshwa at 076 253 2117 or to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
