Still no lifestyle audits conducted on officials and office bearers in Mpumalanga

The FF Plus will put pressure on the Mpumalanga Premier, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, to keep her promise to conduct lifestyle audits on all officials and office bearers in the province.

In her State of the Province Address, the Premier undertook to conduct lifestyle audits and related investigations into all officials and politicians in the province as part of a focused attempt to eradicate corruption.

She, however, did not make any mention of a deadline for these investigations and without a clear plan stipulating deadlines, targets and consequence management, the Premier’s promises are nothing but lip service.

The FF Plus, furthermore, addressed urgent questions to the Premier as well as the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Busisiwe Shiba, about the prescribed process for conducting lifestyle audits on provincial and municipal officials, the related costs and the consequences that officials found guilty of corruption will have to face.

In light of the upcoming local government elections, it is particularly important to conduct lifestyle audits on municipal officials and office bearers so as to ensure that corrupt officials and office bearers are not elected to hold positions again as it is detrimental to municipalities and their residents.

The FF Plus will continue to expose and oppose the corruption and looting of tax money in Mpumalanga and will see to it that the guilty parties are brought to book.
