The ANC government has given 100 hectares of land to a Chinese company on a long term R300 million rental in the Lydenburg / Bosbokrand area.
Africa Sino Projects will also build a hotel and sports park near the Kruger National Park.
Agricultural scientists question the rice project as a large amount of water will have to be supplied to produce rice in this dry area of the province.
A second Chinese company (CSEEC) will build the Duma power plant on 2 hectares of land while the remaining 380 hectares will be used to erect Chinese workers’ homes.
Concern has already been expressed that South Africa can now become a dumping ground for Chinese.
